Guereza Canopy Lodge is a mid-range accommodation located at the edge of Kibale National Park in western Uganda. The lodge offers a perfect base for travelers looking to explore the park, which is known as the “Primate Capital of the World” due to its high density of primates, including over 1,500 chimpanzees. The lodge’s name is inspired by the Mantled Guereza monkey, also known as the black-and-white colobus, a species frequently sighted in the area.
Just to note, the lodge is owned and managed by a local woman who is a former ranger guide, offering a genuine and knowledgeable connection to the surrounding environment and community. The lodge features six elegant cottages, each elevated on a wooden platform and decorated in a traditional African style. These cottages are designed for comfort and offer stunning views of the lush landscape and the distant Rwenzori Mountains.
Activities available to guests include the highlight of chimpanzee tracking in Kibale, as well as bird watching, nature walks in the forest, and cultural experiences. The lodge provides on-site dining with a three-course menu of both traditional and international cuisine, and other amenities like a bar, a spa with massage services, and Wi-Fi. It is accessible by a 5-6 hour road trip from Kampala or a shorter flight to Kasese airstrip, followed by a transfer. Guereza Canopy Lodge is praised for its comfortable rooms, attentive staff, and ideal location for an immersive wilderness experience.
