Serengeti National Park is a described haven of wildlife in the northern part of Tanzania, it is one of the few places in Africa close to the untouched virgin lands of the world, witnessing the migration of the great wildebeests is unique to only 2 ecosystems, neighboring each other, this has been named among the 7 wonders of the world, the speed and stamp of the animals as the run to survive the wild isa magical experience not to miss while in Tanzania it is a thing that can not easily be explained in words but rather to is witnessed on ground, the park is one of the first sites of the UNESCO world heritage in 1981, it was recognized as an important biodiverse environment in, 1951it was gazette as a way of protecting the abundant wildlife that refers the park to as their home this included the Ngorongoro conservation area, which was later split from the national park, the plains of the Serengeti are elevated at 1600-1800 meters above sea level.
Serengeti national park is best known for its vast open savannah grasslands, dotted with shrubs, short trees, thorns, and acacia trees, marshes, kopjes, and small hills, the northern part being mostly hilly with sprouting woodland this one is not as a dense forest, the riverine forested region is rare in the park despite it being present, these habitats support many tree categories and grassy species notably the sausage trees, fig-trees, yellow fever trees to mention a few, it is within these areas that you find the many wildlife of the park including the so called big five of the wilderness,(Leopards, lions, Rhinos, buffaloes, elephants)there is a vast number beyond these species including the giraffes, reedbucks, warthogs, waterbucks, bushbucks, oribi, grey duiker, Roan antelopes, side stripped hyenas, wildebeests, giant crocodiles, cheetahs, golden jackals, bat-eared foxes, black-backed jackals, African wildcats, wild dogs used to be present in the park until unfortunately the number was wiped out due to disease. There are more than 500 birds that have been recorded in the national park to date Examples of species include the African fish eagle, Kori bustards, ostrich, grey-throated spurfowl, red-throated tit, grey crested helmet shrike, fishers love bird, sunbirds, guinea fowls to mention a few.
Activities of the national park include game drives, which are conducted in the morning time, afternoon, and evening time, the drives are conducted on 4×4 wheel car drives, to experience the great migration of the wildebeests and also sights of other mammals in the park, these are done extensively and can even take up to the whole day, an accompaniment of an English speaking guide is even better for sights, the national park is a great place to experience birds, there are quite birds both resident and migratory species the birding safari is excellent during the wet season this involves walking through the well distributed trails of the national park, hot air balloon safari gives you a chance to float over the Serengeti region, it is aong the few national parks where hot air ballon safari is done, wildebeest migration is one of the best things to do while in the park , thousands of animals cross the crocodile infested river many travelers come to the national park to view animals in the park, engage in cultural experiences to the local Masai people.
