This 18 days best of Uganda Primates and Wildlife Adventure safari offered by Gorilla Page safaris is an opportunity to explore the prominent destinations in Uganda. Major destinations to visit include Entebbe and Jinja cities and the source of the Nile, Sipi Falls, and Uganda’s savannah parks like Kidepo Valley National Park, Murchison Falls, Queen Elizabeth, and Lake Mburo National Parks. In these parks, you will sport different wildlife species ranging from big cats like lions, cheetahs, and leopards, to other big mammals like giraffes, elephants, and buffaloes. Antelopes like Uganda kobs can also be seen in large numbers in Murchison Falls National Park among others.

This trip offers an experience with major activities, including game drives in the plains of the Savannah parks, boat cruises like on the famous Kazinga channel and to the bottom of the Murchison Falls on the River Nile, and cultural encounters with the Batwa tribe and the Karamajong, among others. The outstanding activities of this trip are chimpanzee trekking in Kibale forest, known as the primate capital of the world, and gorilla trekking in Bwindi Forest, face to face with the gentle giants in their natural habitats.

Gorilla trekking is the major highlight of this trip and Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park is home to more than 50% of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. Uganda is a most diverse country and this 18 days best of Uganda Primates and Wildlife Adventure is an opportunity to leave no stone unturned of what this amazing pearl of Africa has to offer each of these days unfolds with unique adventures.

Day-to-day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and transfer to your hotel

On your arrival in Uganda, you will receive a warm welcome from our company representative and be briefed about your 18 days best of Uganda Primates and Wildlife Adventure. After the briefing, you will then be transferred to your hotel for relaxation and overnight.

Day 2: Visit Mabamba Swamp and Entebbe city tour

On the second day of your trip, you will explore Lake Victoria by a morning boat ride to Mabamba swamp for birding. This swamp is famous for the Shoebill stork which is one of the rare bird species. You will also encounter other bird species since the swamp is home to more than 300 bird species.

You will return to your lodge for lunch and later visit the Entebbe Wildlife Conservation Education Center also known as Entebbe Zoo. This zoo is a highlight of what to expect in the national parks like mammals and birds. You will see animals in captivity like tigers which are not yet in Uganda’s national parks. You will then return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Transfer to Jinja and visit the source of the Nile

After your breakfast and night relaxation at your lodge, you will embark on a road to the eastern side of Uganda. You will visit the source of the longest river in the world, The Nile. You will take a speed boat to the point where the river starts its journey of three months to reach the Red Sea just from Lake Victoria.

Enjoy your lunch in the city of Jinja and then have an afternoon with options of visiting the local markets and communities or the waterfalls on the Nile such as Busowoko waterfalls. There is optional quad biking or White-water rafting on the Nile.

Day 4: Transfer to Sipi Falls and Hiking at the falls

On this morning of your day 3 of 18 days best of Uganda Primates and Wildlife Adventure, you will embark on your exploration in the East. Get on the road to Sipi Falls less than 4 hours away from Jinja. You will check I at your lodge and have lunch as you prepare to hike at Sipi Falls. You will visit the three waterfalls and have different viewpoints on hiking. You will also visit caves in the area as you appreciate the African heritage and learn about the history of those caves. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Transfer to Kidepo Valley via Pian Upe

As you say goodbye to Sipi, you will enjoy your road trip and have a stopover in Pian Upe. You will explore the largest wild reserve, where you can spot wildlife like topi, eland, Harte beast, buffalo, oribi, and zebras, among others. You will proceed to check in at your lodge for lunch, afternoon relaxation, and an evening game drive.

Day 6: Morning and evening game drive in Narus Valley

As you enjoy the third-largest savannah park in Uganda, also known as the birder’s paradise, there is much to be explored on your game drive. Spend a day in Narus Valley and sight wildlife like zebras, elephants, and buffalos among others. You will have lunch at your lodge and take a rest as you prepare to return to the park for an evening game drive. You will enjoy the game drive as you catch a clip of the game you could have missed in the morning. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight,

Day 7: Visit the hot spring and cultural tour

As you explore Kidepo Valley, the award-winning national park, you will explore the Kanangorok hot spring located in the park. On the way, you will also explore other attractions as you return to your lodge for lunch. You will spend a wonderful afternoon/evening with the local community. While there, you will have the opportunity to interact with the local people-the Karamojong and have an insight into their way of life and beliefs. You will end your visit with a Karamajong traditional dance and then return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 8: Transfer to Murchison Falls

On day 7 of your 18 days best of Uganda Primates and Wildlife Adventure, you will have your breakfast in the morning, and then embark on your journey to Murchison Falls National Park. The journey takes about 7 hours from Kidepo Valley to Murchison Falls. Along the way, you will have a stopover in Gulu town for lunch and proceed with the journey to the park. Upon arrival, you will check in at the lodge and spend the rest of the evening time resting and recovering from the long distance.

Day 9: Morning game drive, evening boat cruise and top of the falls visit

Enjoy an early morning breakfast at the lodge and head out for a morning game drive in the largest national park in Uganda. Murchison Falls National Park has a wide range of wildlife species such as leopards, hippos, lions, warthogs, cape buffaloes, African elephants, antelopes, Rothschild’s giraffes, waterbucks, and various bird species. After the game drive, you will transfer back to the lodge for lunch and some relaxation. Then, you’ll have a 3-hour launch cruise on the River Nile where you will spot several wildlife species along the banks such as African elephants, hippos, Nile crocodiles, antelopes, monkeys, and water bird species. You’ll ride towards the bottom of the falls where you will hike to the top of the fall for about 1 hour and 30 minutes. Afterward, you will retire to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 10: Transfer to Kibale National Park

You will check out on this last day in Murchison Falls and take a game drive as you exit the park and embark on a road trip to Kibale National Park. You will arrive there in the afternoon for lunch and some relaxation at the lodge. You have an afternoon nature walk in Bigodi wetland where you will spot birds, olive baboons, bush babies, and sitatunga among other wildlife species.

Fay 11: Chimpanzee trekking and community encounter

Kibale Forest Chimpanzee Trekking Safari in Uganda and Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

After breakfast, you will transfer to the park offices for briefing and then set out for a chimpanzee trekking through the dense forest. The activity can take two to 7 hours depending on the location of the Chimpanzees. When you find them, visitors are given 1 full hour to spend with the chimpanzees face-to-face. Besides chimpanzees, other primate species can be spotted like the red-tailed monkeys, blue monkeys, black, LHoest’s monkeys, and white colobus monkeys. Also, there are African elephants, antelopes, and Cape buffaloes. From there, you’ll head back to the lodge for lunch and some relaxation. After the chimpanzee trekking, you will transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Day 12: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth and evening game drive

On this beautiful day after tracking, you will enjoy your breakfast and embark on a road trip to Queen Elizabeth National Park. You will reach early and check in at your lodge. Have lunch and afternoon relaxation as you get ready for the evening game drive. On the game drive, you will look out for games like Uganda kob, lions, buffalo, and Elephant among others. You will then return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 13: Morning game drive and Boat cruise with a visit to the Salt Lake

The major highlight of the park is the game drive to spot big cats like leopards and lions. You can also see mammals like elephants, buffaloes, hyenas, and antelopes. Then in the afternoon, you will embark on the most thrilling activity in the park- a boat cruise on the Kazinga channel. You will spot different wildlife on the water banks and bloats of hippos in the water. Kazinga channel Is where you can see hippos in big numbers. You will then go for an evening trip to Salt Lake for a sundowner experience.

Day 14: Transfer to Bwindi via the Ishasha sector and Batwa encounter

You will check out from your lodge and embark on a game drive towards Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park in search of Tree-climbing lions. You will spend some time in this sector and then proceed to your lodge in Bwindi. On arrival, you will have your lunch and you will have a simple resting at your lodge and get ready for evening cultural tour. You will visit the Batwa community for cultural experience. These are the people who have lived with the gorillas for a long time.

Day 15: Gorilla Trekking and transfer to Lake Bunyonyi for relaxation

On this trekking day, you get up for early breakfast as you get ready for the ultimate experience. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is home to half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. After the briefing at the headquarters, you will be led by the ranger guide into the jungle to search for the mountain gorillas. This experience usually takes 2 hours to about 8 hours being that gorillas move differently, and only 1 hour is granted to spend in the presence of gorillas.

After the experience, you will return to your lodge for relaxation and then evening transfer to lake Bunyonyi for relaxation. You will arrive and check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 16: Explore Lake Bunyonyi and canoeing and birding

You will wake up and have breakfast and embark on Lake Bunyonyi exploration. You will have morning canoeing where you will visit different islands including Punishment Island. Lake Bunyonyi has 29 islands and only 5 are the most visited by travelers. You will explore these islands and then return to your lodge for lunch and afternoon relaxation.

Day 17: Transfer to Lake Mburo and Evening game drive

On this morning you will embark on a trip by road to Lake Mburo national park. You will be rewinding the experience as you encounter the wildlife in a different setup. You will check in at your lodge for lunch and afternoon relaxation. You will embark on an evening game drive in the park and spot wildlife including zebras in big numbers. Then return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 18: Nature walks and transfer to Entebbe

On this last day of your 18 days best of Uganda Primates and Wildlife Adventure, you will have a guided walking safari in the park. The wildlife to look out to include Zebras at a close range and giraffes among others. It is the only park where you can view wildlife in the park while on foot. Then you will exit the park and embark on a trip back to Kampala. You will have a stopover at the equator and proceed to Entebbe for your flight or to your lodge.
